The July 2026 update collapses these options. The single operative criterion is now two prior visits to South Korea. Holding an old multiple-entry visa or a Visa Issuance Number alone is no longer sufficient. Travel history is king.
Why This Matters for Indian Travelers
Indian passport holders must obtain a visa before traveling to South Korea. There is no visa on arrival, no K-ETA option, and South Korea does not currently offer an e-visa for Indian citizens — you must apply for a sticker visa through the embassy or authorised visa centres.

The standard processing time for a South Korean tourist visa is 10–12 working days, while those opting for express processing can expect a quicker turnaround of 5–7 working days. Straightforward test: check your passports — current and old — for South Korea entry stamps or visa stickers showing two distinct visits. Under the updated July 2026 rule, you qualify for express processing only if:
- You have entered South Korea on at least two separate occasions with valid visas
- You can document both visits through passport stamps or previous visa stickers
- You are applying at a centre where express processing is currently operational (Chennai or Bengaluru)
It is not possible to change from a normal visa to an express visa once the applicant has applied. Declare express at the time of application — or you'll wait out the full standard timeline regardless.
Also note: Yellow passport holders (Identity Certificate holders) cannot apply for express service and face a minimum processing time of 15 working days.
Fees: What Express Will Cost You
Express processing carries a significant premium. Express processing costs INR 5,950. Compare that to the embassy fee of approximately ₹3,400 for a single-entry visa under standard processing. Add the mandatory service charge: BLS International charges an additional service fee of INR 1,100.
All visa fees are non-negotiable and non-refundable. All visa fees are non-refundable once submitted — regardless of whether the visa is approved or rejected. If your express application is rejected or pulled back for additional documents, the extra fee is gone.
Budget reality for an express application: approximately INR 7,000–8,000 all-in including embassy fee, express surcharge, and service charges.
Standard Processing: The New Reality for Most Indians
If you don't have two Korea trips under your belt, standard processing is your only path. Plan accordingly:
- Processing time: 10 working days from date of submission (can extend to 20 days if additional documents are requested)
- Peak season delays: During peak travel seasons (April–May, October–November, December–January), processing may take longer.
- Apply via: VFS Global (New Delhi, Kolkata), BLS International (Mumbai, Hyderabad), or directly at the Korean Embassy/Consulates

Document Checklist for All C-3-9 Applicants
Whether you're on express or standard track, the base document list remains unchanged. The core documents are: a valid Indian passport (minimum 6 months validity), recent photographs as per South Korea embassy specifications, confirmed return flight tickets, hotel bookings or invitation letter, financial proofs (bank statements, ITRs, salary slips), and the country-specific application form.
For express applicants specifically: you must also include copies of your old passports showing prior Korea entry stamps as proof of two previous visits. Without this, your express claim will not hold up at the counter.
Document authenticity verification has become stricter in 2026 — ensure all financial documents are original, signed, and stamped by issuing authorities, as photocopies or unsigned bank statements will result in immediate application rejection.
e-Arrival Card: Don't Forget This Step
Regardless of whether you're on express or standard processing, there is one additional mandatory step for all travellers. From February 2026, all foreign visitors must complete the e-Arrival Card online at www.e-arrivalcard.go.kr before arrival.
